What canon point is your character taken from?: Season 3/episode Sin City.
Character Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Winchester.
Characters personality:At first glance, Sam Winchester probably wouldn't stand out all that much if it weren't for his impressive height. While he can carry on conversation with the best of them, he tends to be quiet and introspective most of the time. He doesn't tend to flirt as much as his brother, Dean, and doesn't seem to readily notice it when he's being hit on either. He's also shown to be the more sympathetic one, sometimes to a fault. Sam wants to help everyone, whether or not they deserve it. He also wants to believe in choices, that not everyone (or thing) is born bad. He will help people even if it puts him in danger as well or put forth that extra effort even if he's hurting too or not sure he has anything left to give. Sam can't not help people when it comes down to it.
For being the more emotional, open Winchester, he has a secretive side to him. He'll often keep things to himself for as long as he can. He has a stubborn streak in him just like his brother and father as well. Once he sets his mind to something, he will pursue it relentlessly. He can be somewhat single-minded in this regard and hard to discourage. The only time he seems to be easily swayed from his goal is if he thinks someone he cares for is in danger. As a matter of fact, it's shown without Dean in his life, Sam can turn into something that's downright scary and lose touch with his humanity. Dean was the one who said they're the ones who keep each other human and Sam would probably agree with that.
For all his positive points, there are dark sides to Sam as well. Underneath that mild-mannered, polite exterior, lies anger that burns deep and a desperate desire to be normal. A lot in Sam's life has left him angry and he's admitted that it's a problem. He started off being angry at his life as a hunter and being raised into that, never given a chance to be normal, and that shifted to rage at his father, then at Dean. He's spent most his life dealing with it. Besides that, no matter how much he wants to be normal, there is always something dark luring in him, something that never quite fits in no matter how hard he tries to make it. Besides that, Sam can also be self-righteous and border on arrogant when he thinks he's right about something.
He also has miles of guilt like any good Winchester. He blames himself for his mother and his girlfriend's death, he feels guilt whenever he fails to save someone, he feels guilt for who he is even if some of it's beyond his control. He finds it almost impossible to let it go and part of him is always seeking some type of redemption, some way to lessen the load.
The most important person in his life will always be his big brother. The man who has acted as father, mother, brother, and best friend his entire life. They might have their disagreements and differences, but some part of Sam will always have some type of hero worship when it comes to Dean. Sam has admitted to studying him his whole life in an attempt to be more like him. It's safe to say that Dean has shaped him his entire life and though a lot of nasty things have been said about them (co-dependent being the main one), there isn't any one person Sam trusts or wants in his life more.
At his base, Sam Winchester is just a sweet kid who got a rough deal in life. He's made his fair share of mistakes, but he never goes without trying to make up for them.
Does your character have any special abilities? If so how will they be affected in this environment (i.e. how much weaker will they be): Sam has premonitions and psychic powers due to being infected with demon blood as an infant and while they can grow stronger, in the game, they probably would start to fade as he won't have any contact with demons or other psychic kids like him -- both of which can strengthen his abilities.
First Person Sample: I keep telling myself that I can do this, that I need to be strong. I've even told myself that I've done the impossible before -- but the last time I saved Dean's life wasn't exactly all roses and sunshine either. I basically let someone take the fall for Dean... not that I meant to. I didn't know the faith healer wasn't legit. I just... wanted to believe so bad, you know?
The sick thing is, the scary thing is, I think I'd give anything for Dean to be okay. I would take his place in a heartbeat, make any kind of deal if someone would just offer it.
Dean would be pissed. I know he would. He keeps telling me I'm stronger than him, that I'll be fine, but I know I won't be. Who can be fine knowing that in a year, their brother will be in Hell because of this?
I'm so pissed... at him, at every messed up thing about our lives. I just wish he would be honest with me, stop pretending to be okay with everything. I just want my brother to be my big brother again.
I can't do anything but keep trying and keep hoping. I'm going to save Dean. I'm going to save my brother.
Third Person Sample: Sometimes, Sam sits up at his laptop under the pretense of doing research and not wanting to stop, but the truth of it is? His eyes keep darting over to watch Dean sleep, take in the steady rise and fall of his chest with each breath and the way his face smooths out, actually looks peaceful. It's not that he's intentionally trying to be creepy, it's just that... this is probably it. He's trying so hard to save his brother, but the fact is this could be his last year with him.
He has to try to remember all the little things about Dean that he can, burn them into his memory just in case... just in case this actually happens.
He's terrified and pissed that Dean could do this to him... not only leave him alone in a crappy world, in a crappy life, but that he could put the guilt of this on him. It doesn't matter what his brother says, the fact reminds that he's going to Hell because of him. It's a lot to put on his shoulders, too much really. He's pretty sure he's not going to be okay, no matter what Dean insists.
Huffing out a sigh, Sam forces his eyes back to the screen and tries to read text that he just... can't take in, can't absorb because he's beyond exhausted. He should go to bed, but all he can do is sit and stare at the screen.
It's not like this is a particularly hard case anyway. A water wraith, they think. Something they can handle pretty easily.
When the charade gets to be too much to keep up, Sam will close the laptop, change into his pajamas, and try for a couple hours of fitful sleep... but until then, he'll keep reading away on his laptop and try not to be too obvious that his eyes are mostly on Dean.
